ADV

Table of Contents

Sigurtà Garden Park is a wonderful 60-hectare nature park located in Valeggio sul Mincio, in the province of Verona.

Since its opening year (1978), the park has collected a long list of awards including ‘most beautiful park in Italy‘ in 2013, ‘second most beautiful park in Europe‘ in 2015, and ‘most beautiful flowering in Italy‘ in 2016.

We visited Sigurtà Garden Park on the occasion of Tulipanomania and, below, you can find all the information you need to plan a visit to this enchanting oasis of peace and beauty.

Let’s set off!

Where the Sigurtà Garden Park is located

The Sigurtà Garden Park is located in Valeggio sul Mincio, 8 kilometres south of Peschiera del Garda.

Address – Via Cavour, 1, 37067 Valeggio sul Mincio VR, Italy.

Where to park

The Park has a convenient free car park, located 600 metres from the entrance (Parcheggio Verde).

What is the best period to go to the Sigurtà Park

At Sigurtà each season has its own particular charm given by the flowering of the different species present.

In early spring, for example, the tulips bloom; in May the irises and roses.

During the summer, on the other hand, dahlias, hydrangeas, sunflowers and aquatic plants (lotus flowers, papyruses and water ibises) bloom.

In autumn, it is the turn of asters, begonias and zinnias.

At any time of year, the Sigurtà Garden Park fascinates with different colours and scents!

If I had to recommend a period, however, I would suggest the flowering of tulips, which is the second richest in Europe (after Keukenhof in Holland), and the most important in Italy.

When to see the tulips at the Sigurtà Garden Park

Tulip Festival

If you want to witness, specifically, the flowering of tulips, called Tulipanomania, you have to go from around mid-March to early May.

The flower beds of the Sigurtà Park are coloured by more than a million tulips in numerous varieties, which in 2022 earned the park the title of Best Tulip Festival in the World!

Opening dates 2024

The Sigurtà Garden Park is open every day from 8 March to 10 November 2024, with opening hours of 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (last entry one hour earlier).

In March, October and November, the Park closes one hour earlier (at 18:00).

On Easter Monday, 25 April and 1 May 2024, access to the Park will only be possible with online tickets purchased for those specific dates, subject to availability.

What to see at the Sigurtà Garden Park

The Sigurtà Garden Park is very extensive, so I recommend taking the map provided free of charge at the entrance, in order to better orient yourself inside and not to miss the most important attractions.

Among the attractions not to be missed are:

  • Avenue of Roses, a pedestrianised avenue on which 30,000 roses of two different varieties, Queen Elizabeth and Hybrid Polyantha&Floribunda, follow one another. In the background of the avenue, one can admire the Scaligero Castle of Valeggio sul Mincio, which, thanks to the scenographic construction of the Avenue of Roses, seems to rise within the park.
  • A labyrinth whose paths have been created with 1,500 yew plants, specially purchased in the Netherlands, more than two metres high. Very fun to walk through with children!
  • Water gardens where you can admire tropical and rustic water lilies and, between March and May, floating beds of tulips.
  • Medicinal Plant Garden
  • Small lakes crossed by a romantic little bridge.
  • Great Oak, a magnificent 400-year-old specimen 40 metres high and 6 metres wide (trunk circumference).
  • Grotta Votiva, made of natural stones and embedded fossils, is dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes.
  • Meridiana Orizzontale is a sundial reminiscent in appearance of the sundials of the past. The figure that makes up the dial of the sundial represents the sun, source of life.
  • Educational farm with some farmyard animals.
