In the continuous search for the most beautiful blooms in our country, we came across the Lavandeto of Assisi where you can witness the fragrant flowering of lavender.
But what is it about? Il Lavandeto di Assisi is a three-hectare nursery immersed in the beautiful Umbrian countryside, more precisely in Castelnuovo di Assisi, which produces and sells various types of plants. Among others, you can find perennial Mediterranean plants, aquatic plants, aromatic plants, grasses, flowering sage, and, of course, lavender plants in over 60 varieties.

What is the peculiarity of the Lavandeto of Assisi? Since 2009, the extensive fields of the Lavandeto of Assisi have hosted the traditional Lavender Festival where its flowering is celebrated from mid-June to mid-July.

The Lavender Festival at the Lavandeto of Assisi: what to expect
You leave your car in the well-marked free car parks and walk towards the entrance. You can enter and walk freely, without reservation, both in the lavender fields – the photos with the background of Assisi are beautiful – and in the rest of the Lavandeto whose garden hosts many other varieties of plants, colorful flowers, ornamental salvias, ponds with water lilies .. and so on.
Immersing yourself in the rows of lavender – with the buzzing of bees in the background and the heady scent of flowers – is one of the things to do at least once in your life!

We also tasted the handmade lavender ice cream with chocolate drops, on sale at the stalls, and bought several bags filled with really fragrant dried lavender, to take home as a souvenir.
It should also be known that during the lavender festival, you can find many activities such as yoga, courses and the distillation of lavender flowers, and aperitifs are organized between the rows or sitting at a table with live music, to be booked in advance.
In addition, you can take part in guided tours which take place approximately every half hour from 10:30 to 12:00 and from 17:00 to 19:00 on each day of celebration. Reservation is not necessary, it can be requested at the moment, and the price is 6 euros per person.
Also on holidays, you can find two refreshment points for lunch with typical street food – wraps, text, cold cuts, cheeses, etc – and booking is not necessary.
For all the information, I refer you to the official website of Il Lavandeto di Assisi.
