This is the village of Colletta di Castelbianco, listed in 2008 among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.

Colletta di Castelbianco is a charming medieval stone village, located in the hinterland of Savona, 300 metres above sea level.

But why is it called a telematic village? Let’s find out together!

A bit of history

The village of Colletta di Castelbianco, originated between the 12th and 14th centuries as an outpost to defend the territory from Saracen invasion.

In 1202, the village belonged to the Clavesana marquises.

For a brief period, it passed into the hands of the Cepolla family of Albenga, but soon returned to its previous owners.

Subsequently, it was a fief of the Del Carretto marquises of Finale, then the marquises of Zuccarello and finally the Savoys.

The violent earthquake of 1887 caused its progressive depopulation, leaving the village of Colletta di Castelbianco in ruins.

The rebirth

From being an abandoned village, Colletta di Castelbianco became the first telematic medieval village in Italy in 1990.

In that year, in fact, Sivim (Società Imprenditoriale Sviluppo Iniziative Immobili) decided to start a project to restore the buildings, equipping the entire village with advanced computer technology.

The aim was to accommodate people interested in working in a quiet place, far from the hectic city life.

Colletta di Castelbianco is, today, a place where past and present coexist in perfect balance.
