Spring blossoming is a wonderful spectacle that opens the heart and conveys a sense of joy and optimism.

There are many opportunities to be in nature, but only in certain places can you admire special blossoms that leave you open-mouthed!

Lentils in Castelluccio di Norcia

Between the end of June and the beginning of July, the area of Pian Grande and Pian Perduto in Castelluccio di Norcia becomes so colourful that it looks like a rainbow.

Those responsible for this palette of colours are the blue flowers of the lentils, but also daffodils, poppies, gentians, wild mustard, cornflowers and other wild herbs.

That of the lentils is truly one of the most unusual blooms, to be admired at least once in a lifetime.

Rhododendrons in the Burcina Park

The Burcina Park is a free and open-access park covering no less than 57 hectares.

It is located on the outskirts of Biella and is home to an enormous variety of natural species, including rhododendrons (the so-called rhododendron basin is famous), which bloom between late May and early June.

The rhododendron basin consists of a multicoloured cascade of these marvellous flowers with different shades of colour. Truly scenic.

Inside the Burcina Park, there are many other species including roses, liriodendrons, hydrangeas, maples, redwoods, firs, cypresses, etc. Go to full article

The flowering of the Daffodils

We move inside the Antola Park, and more precisely to Pian della Cavalla where, in May, a very special flowering takes place: that of the Narcissus poeticus.

Sunflowers in Val D’Orcia and Umbria

Two of the Italian regions best known for their sunflower fields are Tuscany and Umbria.

In the warmer months (roughly from the end of June to August), these fields turn into a golden sea, a picturesque and also somewhat romantic spectacle.

Below you can find directions to admire some wonderful sunflower fields:

  • Massa Marittima: following the road from Colle Val d’Elsa to the beaches of Punta Ala and Castiglione della Pescaia;
  • following the SP31 in the direction of Lorenzana;
  • around Asciano;
  • from Marsciano to Villanova and Fratta Todina, following SR397;
  • around Il Lavandeto, many fields with Assisi in the background.

Roses in the Nervi Parks

Nervi is a district of Genoa, characterised by a picturesque harbour, a charming seaside promenade, and wonderful parks where you can take a stroll or relax on the lawns.

Right inside the 92,000 square metres of the Nervi Parks, there is a fascinating rose garden consisting of a variety of species (originally, there were more than 800).

The parks are open from 8 a.m. until sunset, and access is free.

Tulips at Villa Taranto and Sigurtà Park

Holland is the home of tulips, but also here in Italy you can find wonderful blooms of this bulbous species.

The Italian gardens that are home to tulips in spring are:

  • Giardino di Villa Taranto in Verbania, on Lake Maggiore, which is home to 70 varieties, totalling 80,000 tulips. Famous is its tulip maze in which you can immerse yourself during the Bulb Festival in April;
  • Parco Sigurtà in Valleggio sul Mincio in the province of Verona, which hosts Tulipanissima.

Italy’s most beautiful blooms: cherry blossom

Vignola, in the province of Modena, is the undisputed home of the cherry.

The best place to admire the blossoms is on the cycle/pedestrian road that goes up the Panaro (via dei Ciliegi).

In Turin, on the other hand, you have to go to the Venaria Reale Gardens, roughly between mid-March and mid-April, to immerse yourself in the romantic atmosphere of the cherry blossoms.

Italy’s most beautiful blossoms: The Wisteria of Villa della Pergola

Villa della Pergola is an elegant historical residence from the late 19th century, located in the resort town of Alassio on the Riviera Ligure di Ponente.

The villa cannot be visited, but its wonderful gardens can!

The park houses the most important Italian collection of wisteria, with about 40 varieties, and the largest collection of agapanthus in Europe, with thousands of specimens of more than 500 different types.

Gardens won the Most Beautiful Park in Italy award for the period 2020-2022.

They can be visited from March to October, only by guided tours that must be booked in advance (€15.00).

If you want to admire the flowering wisteria, you have to go in April/May.

Italy’s most beautiful blooms: Lotus flowers in Mantua

Probably not everyone knows that Mantua is also known as the City of Lotus Flowers.

Between the end of June and the beginning of September, the beautiful pink and magenta-coloured lotus flowers appear in Lake Superior in Mantua.

Those wishing to fully immerse themselves in the experience can take part in a boat trip organised by the Mincio Boatmen.
