Table of Contents

In spring in Holland, there is a veritable explosion of colours.

The flowering fields of tulips look like colourful carpets of a thousand shades.

The greatest concentration of these beautiful flowers, is found at Keukenhof, the most beautiful flower park in the world.

Let’s find out together how to get to Keukenhof, what to see, tickets, and the dates up to 2024.

Keukenhof: dates up to 2024

The Keukenhof opens its doors to visitors from 21 March to 12 May 2024 with opening hours of 8:00-19:30.

What is the best time to visit Keukenhof?

Taking into account that the flowering season varies from year to year depending on the climate, generally the peak flowering period for tulips coincides with the end of April.

For up-to-date information on the progress of flowering, you can look at the Keukenhof Park‘s facebook page.

Keukenhof 2024: a bit of history

Keukenhof came into being in 1949 when some growers decided to create a place to display their flowering bulbs.

Over the years, the park has grown more and more until today it has become a regular and much-awaited event for visitors from all over the world.

The park’s gardeners start planting the first bulbs by hand in October – a total of 7 million!

It is a race against time because all the bulbs have to be planted before Christmas so that they can flower in the spring.

What to see at Keukenhof 2024

The Keukenhof is a wonderful garden covering 32 hectares, where more than 4.5 million tulips in 100 different varieties, 2500 trees of 87 different species, and various other flowers such as narcissus, hyacinths and muscari shine.

Inside the park, there is also a windmill, on which you can climb to contemplate the spectacle of the blossoming from above, and canals where you can navigate with electric boats.

The absolute stars are, of course, the tulips, in every colour and shape thanks to the designs of the flowerbeds.

The combinations of flowers create a thousand shades of colour and the scent is intoxicating.

Each year, a particular theme, related to the Netherlands, is chosen and a beautiful flower arrangement is set up to represent it.

For lunch, you can improvise a picnic on the benches or buy something tasty at the kiosks (waffles, pancakes, sausage rolls and other delicacies).

At the entrance to Keukenhof, a map of the park is provided free of charge.

How to get to Keukenhof

Keukenhof is located about 40 kilometres from Amsterdam.

There are several ways to get to the park

  • rental car (approximately 35 minutes)
  • public transport
  • guided tour from the centre of Amsterdam

As far as renting a car is concerned, you can compare offers from rental agencies and save up to 70% by booking a car on the DiscoverCars portal.

I talk about it HERE.

By public transport, from Schiphol Airport (Schiphol Plaza exit number 4), bus number 858, called the Keukenhof Express, departs and arrives at Keukenhof in just over 30 minutes (at busy times, even more than 1 hour).

Attention – During weekends, the queue for bus No 858 can become hundreds and hundreds of metres long (up to a 3-hour wait).

From Amsterdam, you can also take the Intercity to Haarlem and then bus No 50 (about 1h20, not very smooth).

For the organised tour, you can look at the best offer on the GetYourGuide booking portal.

There are several types (transfer only, entry to Keukenhof combined with a canal cruise or a visit to the Zaanse Schans, are just a few examples).

To see them all – click here.

In any case, the journey to Keukenhof is already a marvel, as you can admire colourful tulip fields, windmills, grazing cows and sheep.

Where to buy the ticket for Keukenhof 2024

Tickets can be purchased either online or directly at the ticket office.

We recommend online in advance as once the tickets are sold out, you can no longer enter the park.

You can purchase them directly at this link.

The tickets arrive by email and you will be able to enter the park directly, without queuing.

The Keukenhof is very large and there is never an unpleasant crowding.

However, the best entrance times are in the early morning and in the afternoon after 4pm.

Inside the Keukenhof, there are 15 kilometres of footpaths that are also suitable for prams.

For children, there is a nice playground and a farm where you can pet small farmyard animals.

There are also some fun activities for children such as a treasure hunt, which can be requested at the information desk.

Finally, bicycles with child seats can be rented to immerse oneself more in nature.

Other Keukenhof experiences: helicopter

For those who want a unique experience, it may be interesting to know that the Keukenhof can be flown over in a helicopter.

Admiring the tulips from above is certainly an unforgettable experience (although a bit expensive!)
