Duna-Ipoly Nemzeti Park is Hungary’s second largest national park by geographical extent.
It is located north of the Hungarian capital and stretches from the Danube Bend and Szentendre Island to the gates of Budapest.
The Danube Bend is one of the most enchanting places to be found along the course of the river of the same name. Here the Danube takes the shape of a perfect S because its course is diverted by mountains.
The Danube Bend remains about forty kilometers from Budapest so it is a stop you might consider if you are visiting the Hungarian capital; it can be easily done going and coming back in a day.
We decided to see the Danube Bend from an exceptional vantage point, walking the Prédikálószék (Pulpit or Preacher’s Chair) trail in Pilisszentlaszlo.
Danube-Ipoly National Park: Ansa of Danube. Getting there
Directions on the Internet are really few so we will try to be as precise as possible.
You will have to set the address of this restaurant on your navigator: Kis Rigó Vendéglő, Pilisszentlászló, hrsz. 1168/A, Sikárosi út, 2009 Hungary (where, by the way, the food is excellent, we will tell you later).
You will see that on the opposite side of the gate, there is a small lay-by where you can park. On the right starts the path that will take you to the top.
The landmark symbol is the red triangle.
Danube-Ipoly National Park: Ansa of Danube. Itinerary
The trail does not present great difficulty or danger for a child, however, it is quite long, 7 km with an elevation gain of 300 meters.
It reaches an altitude of 639 meters.
Our 3-year-old daughter, who is used to walking, gave up 100m from the finish so we moved the little one into the baby carrier and stuffed the “big one” into the backpack.
We took about 3 hours round trip, counting the stops.
When you see a very tall observation tower in the distance (there are many in Hungary), you will know you have arrived!
Unfortunately, it was hazy that day and we could see little or nothing but on a sunny day the view of the Danube Bend would surely be phenomenal!

Where to eat
We recommend the restaurant where we parked the car, tasty Hungarian cuisine at a fair price, and a nice little playground for the children to enjoy after they finish their lunch.
